TPS2595: Setting I_LIM between 4A and 5A and the resistance value in that case

Part Number: TPS2595

Hi,

I would like to ask you about TPS259541DSGR.
(question 1)
According to the 7.3 Recommended Operating Conditions section of the data sheet, I_LIM states that MAX 4A is the recommended value.
In addition, as a design guarantee value, it is stated that I_LIM can be used even at 5A at MAX.
Is it okay to set I_LIM between 4A and 5A?
(Question 2)
If I_LIM is set between 4A and 5A, the value of R_LIM may fall below the recommended value (MIN = 487Ω).
Is it okay to set it below 487Ω?
Is there a lower limit?

Best regards,

  • Hi Kaji,

5A value is the maximum current allowed through the device  for temp   -40 to 105c but it is guaranteed by design and not tested at production. For TPS2595xx device the recommended value of RILIM is 487 to 5000 ohm.

Accuracy of current limit is   being guaranteed for RILM values within the recommended range. Also, the UL certification only covers the min and max values of current limit mentioned in the datasheet. Outside this range, the device would still continue to limit current functionally but you have  to verify it on your  system for its accuracy.
