BQ25120: Integrated buck default output voltage set to 1.1V

Part Number: BQ25120

Hello,

We are using the BQ25120's integrated buck to supply our system. It is supposed to output 1.8V yet we measure 1.1V, which is not enough to power and flash our MCU.

Here is what we know so far:

  • We only have 7 boards which all have the same issue
  • No flashing nor prior usage of any kind has been done on those boards before measuring the BQ output
  • When usign the same external BOM as our design on the BQ25120EVM-731, the output is 1.8V
  • When using the EVM to power our system (removing our BQ output self), we are able to flash our MCU and everything is working properly
  • Reading the 06h register of our board's BQ over I2C shows 0x80 which sets the buck to 1.1V, however our test software is  a basic read only tool so it should not be able to modify that register by itself. This seems to show the BQ is set to 1.1V by default instead of 1.8V

We use FPC so rework is tricky, and since we only have 7 boards we'd like to avoid swaping the BQ unless really necessary.

Any idea about why this could be happening is welcome!

Here is our design for the BQ part:

Thanks for your help,

Damien
