TL431 Vbat operating range on Figure 27

Hello,

(1.)  Regarding Figure 27 on P.30 of the TL431 spec, what is the recommended Vbat operating voltage range.

(2.) What is the recommended transistor in the same Figure. 27.

    Scott,

    Vi Batt could be as low as 6V, if Rb is such that the TL431 cathode current is at least 1mA (not very practical, 7V or higher is easier).
    In theory, there is no upper limit to Vi(batt), but TL431 cathode current must be less than 100mA and Rb rated for the power loss.

    The transistor should be rated for the input voltage, output current, and power (Vi-Vo)*Iout. There is no output current limit other than VI(batt)/Rb*NPN beta.
