PTH05010W: PTH05010W

Part Number: PTH05010W
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH05050W

Hello,

The PTH05010 emits a high whistle tone. It is the coil on the module.  (Vin 5 V, Vout 0.85V, Iout 8 Amps. What can we do about it?

Best regards

Norbert

  • Hi Norbert:

Any noise from the PTH05010W is likely the resultant  low frequency transient on the VOLT  power bus or insufficient input polarized capacitance .

Input capacitance  must be at least 470UF polarized capacitor see attached.

Suggest adding a polarized capacitor of at least 330uF on the output bus will minimize with aid in output low audible transient.

  • Hello Tom,

I put one 470 uF Elco to the input and one 470 uF Elco to the output. They are soldered directly on top of the PTH module. The whistle tone didn't vanish.
Only the powerful touch of the coil on the module affects the whistling sound.

    Best regards

    Norbert

Please contact me directly off line  at tguerin@ti.com. on this apparent  transient issue. What is the complete PTH05050W part number

    Include in your e-mail,

1 picture of the top side and bottom side components, and how the input and output capacitors are connected .Include the module part number  in the pictures.. How are you connecting Vout and Vin along with the ground

    2. What is the input and output capacitor part number, vendor and ESR of these capacitors.

    3. What is the Vout and output current load.?

    4. What is the Vin voltage and source? Is this a DC input?

    5. Include Wave form pictures of Vin B+ and Vout B+
