Hi Board designers
The AM64x, AM62x, AM62Ax, AM62D-Q1, AM62Px and AM62L custom board Schematic review Checklist application note provides a supplemental design check
when creating designs with AM64x, AM62x, AM62Ax, AM62D-Q1, AM62Px and AM62L family of processors. Schematic review Checklist enables customers to
perform self-review of all the sections (critical aspects) of their custom board design as well as track which sections of the
custom board schematic have been reviewed and sections that might need additional attention or clarifications.
This FAQ provides detailed description on how to use the spreadsheet and address some of the common questions/issues that can arise
during custom board schematic design. The FAQ and the schematic review checklist is a companion to the other processor documentation
(Data sheet, Technical Reference Manual, Errata, Application notes and so forth) and does not replace it or any documentation.
If there are any discrepancies between this schematic review checklist and processor documentation, the processor documentation
take precedent (unless otherwise noted).
When reviewing a custom board schematic design, often the review Checklist will refer you to processor specific EVM or SK design(s).
In case of any discrepancy between TI EVM or SK and the device-specific data sheet, or other documentation, always follow the processor
documentation (unless otherwise noted). Despite the designer's best efforts, the EVM/SK may contain errors that still function but
are not completely aligned with the data sheet specification. The EVM/SK designs are a great place for design information,
but should not be considered as reference designs to be blindly reused.
Processor Family Specific User's Guide
The user's guide covers processors (GPNs). Each of the processor GPN can have multiple OPNs. The user's guide includes schematic design guidelines, schematic design checklist and schematic review checklist that can be used during custom board design. Processor family specific user's guide provides processor focused design guidelines and review checklist, makes it easy to use for custom board designers when designing the board using a specific processor family. The user's guide is simpler and is easy to use for the chosen processor and processor family.
Schematic Design Guidelines
The user's guide includes relevant schematic sections extracted from the SK or EVM schematics file for quick reference when the design guidelines are being reviewed for implementation on the custom board. The user's guide provides schematic design guidelines that can be used during custom board schematic design phase to implement the circuit connections between the processor and peripherals supported by the selected processor. Links to relevant FAQs have been added (as part of the guideline in each section) in addition to the design guidelines. FAQs (links added) provide additional information on a specific peripheral or interface topic
including description and details on the implementation/use case and learning from customer interactions.
The recommendation is for custom board designers to follow the schematic design guidelines to minimize design errors that can affect board functionality, performance and to optimize the custom board design/build/test efforts.
Schematic Review Checklist
Schematic review checklist that can be used by custom board designers to review the custom board schematic design covering specific peripherals that have been described at the end of each section, sub section of the
user's guide. The general recommendations, processor power and processor peripherals sections, sub sections described in the user's guide includes the checklist at the end. The custom board schematic design review
checklist is categorized as General, Schematic Review, and Additional. Custom board designers can use the schematic review checklist to perform self-review of the custom board schematic design. Self-review minimizes
possible schematics errors that can result in functional or performance related concerns and also reduce the review efforts during formal reviews (internal or external). Schematic review optimizes (reduces) the efforts
required during custom board bring-up or performance testing resulting in increased board design quality and adherence to the planned timeline.
The key features of the Schematic Review Checklist are listed in this section. The Schematic Review Checklist covers wide range of topics regarding custom board schematic design. The list has been made comprehensive for customer to use. However, the list is not exhaustive, and other items might need to be verified in your custom board design.
If you have specific questions about this Schematic Review Checklist or aspects of a design not covered by this Schematic Review Checklist, submit a ticket on the TI E2E support forums.
Topics covered in the Schematic Review Checklist includes:
- Processor Selection
- Power Architecture
- General Recommendations including Component Selection and guidelines to be followed Before Beginning the Design and SK/EVM design reuse

Note: The schematic review checklist has 3 sections
General:
The general section of the checklist lists (summarizes) the circuit implementations in bullets for custom board designer to review the schematic using the bulleted check points that are required (expected) to be implemented on the custom board design to support the required functionality for the specific peripheral section described above the checklist section (design guidelines section). The section also include important implementations to be considered when the circuit section is interfaced or connected to another circuit section to implement the functionality. The recommendation is to review and update the implementation check column provided as part of the excel schematic review (using PDF user's guide or excel checklist with illustrations) checklist before board build.
