TDA4VM: TDA4VM: Simultaneous Ethernet access from MCU Island and Main Island with Single PHY

Part Number: TDA4VM

The thread has been locked as no response came for 30 days.

So again posting the same in related query.

Hello,
We would like to connect PHY to MCU Island in RGMII connection.
Is the Ethernet FW be capable of redirecting and allowing to use both the Ethernet traffic Main Island(A72) and MCU Island separately ?
The use case is as following :
1. Use only 1 PHY and connect to MCU Island
2. When in MCU Only mode to have the access to Ethernet still
3. When Main Island A72 is up, use for both Linux and MCU Island
4. Can Ethernet FW handle of sending both these traffic over single PHY?
Regards,
Kishore
  • Hi Kishore,

Sorry for the delay and the fact that you did not get a response on other thread.

We would like to connect PHY to MCU Island in RGMII connection.

Are you referring to the MCU CPSW ? If yes, then it cannot be used to share traffic with A72 and MCU R5F

If you are referring to the CPSW 9G (which is in Main domain) then the answer to your question is yes, a single PHY can redirect traffic to multiple cores, but it would require you to configure the ALE (Address Lookup Engine) as per your requirements. See this FAQ

    2. When in MCU Only mode to have the access to Ethernet still

However, CPSW 9G is not powered up in MCU only mode. Only MCU CPSW can
