Part Number: AM3358

We need to design two ProfiNet network ports in AM335X Linux system. Now we have two questions to ask.

1. Do we have to use PRU to simulate these two profiNet network ports?

2. Does profiNet network port have any special requirements for PHY?

Hello Sunny,

TI does not support Profinet from AM335x Linux, but we do support Profinet in the AM335x RTOS system. If you are interested in more information, let us know whether you wanted Profinet master or Profinet slave.

Thank you! We want to use ProfiNet master in Linux with AM3358 PRU Net, could you please provide some advices.
And I know TI do support ProfiNet slave in AM335X RTOS system, but the protocol stack is not provided by TI. Could you please provide more information on how to get the license?

PROFINET stack architecture is asymmetric, the device (sometimes called slave) is where the ICSS based firmware and protocol stack on ARM core are used. For this depending on which Sitara device you are looking for you can get a stack from TI, TMG, Kunbus or Port. For example see https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sprach6 for stack from TI on AM64x/AM243x and for 3rd party stack on AM335x see https://www.tmgte.de/en/products/profinet-products/profinet-io-technology-from-molex.html. For PROFINET controller (master) TI does not provide a stack. But you can run for example Codesys PROFINET controller (https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1039770/am6442-sitara-webinar-series-using-codesys-control-on-sitara-am64x-rt-linux-for-plc-controller-stacks ) . For controller the Ethernet port used can be a standard port, the ICSS-PRU PROFINET firmware is for device side, implementing for example cut-through switching.
