TDA4VM: What is the difference between GP and HS in hardware

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hi

J721E supports General Purpose (GP) devices and High Secure (HS) device types

What is the difference between GP、HS-SE and HS-FS in hardware?

Does the hardware have a fuse blowing mechanism?

If the programming is wrong, is the device broken?

  • Hi Zi,

    1. GP device: General-Purpose device type, can be production device, but normally used in development considering security.
    2. HS-FS device: High Security-Field Securable device, the customer area is blank. The HS-FS device needs to program keys before delivery to the end-customer.
    3. HS-SE device: High Security-Security Enforced device. The customer has programmed their keys into the customer area. The HS-SE devices can be production devices.

Yes, the HS-FS devices need to have the keys blown that converts it to a HS-SE device. This is done through a TI provided KeyWriter program specific to each SoC and Silicon Revision.

And yes, if the programming goes wrong, the device is broken, so utmost care should be taken while programming the keys.

Please look through the Jacinto7 HS Device Development and Jacinto7 HS Device Flashing Solution App Notes on ti.com for further information.

  • Hello,Suman

Thank you very much for your reply

    I still have questions:

    1.  “This is done through a TI provided KeyWriter program specific to each SoC and Silicon Revision.”

If we buy chips from you, will this KeyWriter be done by you(TI) or by us?

2." if the programming goes wrong, the device is broken, so utmost care should be taken while programming the keys."

My understanding is that KeyWriter may damage the device.
If the image of the SPL or SBL is wrong after the KeyWriter succeeds, will the device also be damaged?

  • Hi Zi,

    1. The TI Keywriter program will be provided by TI. The flashing of the devices obviously has to be done by customers.

    2. No, only damage is incorrect programming of keys. If keys are programmed properly, any issues with SPL or SBL can be corrected by reflashing the updated bootloader binaries.
