TDA4VM: Ethfw issue about mapping MAC port usage

Dear TI experts,

I'd like to post a question about my issue regarding to mapping MAC port.

Currently, I want to create a setup as below:

EVM Board <----> Ubuntu PC

The connection will use ethernet cable.

I've tried the setup in this FAQ 

Now I can see that the driver is completed loaded 

 

The ethernet interfaces already presented

Then I start the ethfw by running the vision_apps. I can see that the configuration seems success

Now I able to config the IP Address for interfaces:

But at this stage, I still cannot ping to the Ubuntu machine. I config the Ubuntu machine with address = 192.168.1.201

May I get your consultancies for this issue? What can be the cause and where should I start to check?

    Can you please share the whole log for analysis.

    Also, can you please confirm is RGMII Tx delayed is enabled at PHY? If so, can you please disable and check once.

    From Logs it seems like MAC Port -1 is mapped.

    As you were using Vision Apps application, you need to change MAC port configuration in "gEthApp_autosarVirtPortCfg" from <PSDK RTOS>/vision_apps/utils/ethfw/src/app_ethfw_freertos.c".

    Can you map the same MAC port in above which is being configured in Linux side and check once.

    I also tried to disable the value in gEthApp_virPortCfg, but then, there is no eth0 in Linux side.

    From below thread, I assume that you are mapping MAC Port-2 to Linux and same was updated in Linux device tree.

    Above Autosar virtual port configuration not required to change, It is supported on MCU2_1 and that to MAC only Port is not supported. Only Switch port is supported.


    This configuration is fine, for mapping MAC Port-1 to A72 in MAC only Port.

    You need make sure following things.
    1. Port configuration for MAC Port-1, refer below image as reference.

    2. Port enable under gEthAppPorts.

    3. Linux Device tree update.

    Please refer to E2E thread mentioned above where Port-2 is enabled successfully, similarly you have make all relevant changes for MAC Port-1.
    Also, Refer  FAQ  [How to Add MAC only port to A72] for better understanding.

    Could you please check and confirm my setup and my observe? 

    In cases they all fine. Are there any other items that I can check?

    It is specific to PHY you are using, not sure whether those are required in your PHY or not.
    Can you please disable RGMII Tx Delay in PHY and check once.

    Can you please share following information.
    1. Your requirement (like what ports you want to map to A72 under MAC only ports) and whole system diagram from source to destination.
    2. Ethfw changes and Linux dtb changes,
    3. Ethfw log from main UART terminal (if UART terminal not available run "# cat /sys/kernel/debug/remoteproc/remoteproc*/trace0"  in Linux A72 terminal)
    4. Ifconfig information on A72 and Link Partner side.
    5. arp -i <interface> on A72 and Link Partner after running ping.
    6. Run "# ethtool -t <interface> " command on A72 and followed "# cat /sys/kernel/debug/remoteproc/remoteproc*/trace0" command when Ethfw UART terminal is not available.

    It will be in PHY Spec, we need to access PHY register and update those.
    For reference please refer to below PHY register for RGMII Tx & RX delay control n DP83867 PHY.

    If you can't from PHY side, you can try from CPSW side. But is not recommended to disable.
    Comment out below highlighted line.


    I capture from Linux A72 side. And 192.168.1.100 is my Ubuntu PC

    Can you open Wireshark in Ubuntu PC and confirm if any packets being received.

    By default CPSW side RGMII Tx delay is enabled. As Tx is from MAC to PHY so, default enabled in MAC side and not required to enable at PHY side.

    Where as Rx has to be enabled at PHY, MACs may not support for the same.

    As you are not aware of how to disable in PHY side, I suggested to disable at CPSW MAC side. But, Ideal recommendation is disable at PHY side.
    If possible disable from PHY side.

    If Tx delay enabled at MAC side and PHY side then data may corrupt captured at PHY side and will not be sent out to line.

    I not tried the update to PHY regs. But when I comment this line out. The ping command now able to works.

    It seems that I can't do disable the Tx on Phy side, but I'll investigate it more.

    But I've another problems here.

    1. I'd like to share my requirement and setup for testing here:

    My requirement is to use 5 ports in MAC Only mode and. I'm testing by connect directly with my PC first.

    So currently, I'm trying on the DP83TG720. And with your support to disable the Tx delay, I able to make 1 port works with ping command.

    But when I enable others ports. I see that still only 1 port that can works. It's the MAC PORT 2 as above setup. For other ports, there still not work: no transmit and received captured (I checked with tcpdump and wireshark).

    2. Even the Macport 2 works with ping command, but seems it not stable as I expected. I try to use the iPerf to check and here is the result:

    The IP 11.11.11.10 is my A72.

    The UP 11.11.11.9 is my PC.

    So with 2 issues above, may I have your suggestion to solve them?

    Please refer to FAQ [How to add/map MAC only ports to A72 Linux] for adding MAC only ports and mapping to A72 virtual client.

    Along with above FAQ, you need make sure MAC Port configuration for the same ports mapped to A72 as mentioned in below for reference.



    Note:
    Resource required to be take care (Tx, Rx flows, MAC Address), you can enable 4 Ports and check as Max Tx channels reserved will be 8 (in including ethfw + remote client cores).

    If you want to enable all 8 ports then you can go with Native Linux Driver based approach and do port configuration accordingly in device tree overlays, refer to FAQ [How to move to Native Linux Driver].
