[FAQ] AM3352: Number of assigned MAC addresses

Thank you for the query.

I am aware of the MAC ID0 and MAC ID 1 being programmed.

I need to check on the third one.

Can you confirm that actually all AM335x devices (or at least ZCE packaged AM3352) have 3 MAC addresses assigned and that it will continue to be that way?

Could you help me understand the use case.

We are looking for a unique id per device from the MCU and the MAC addresses is the only thing we've so far been able to locate that is unique and persistent. The reason for the 3rd MAC address in our case would mean that the number of unique bytes would go from 12 to 18.

As mentioned above you could use the Mac ID0 and ID1.

I need to check internally if the third MAC ID is being programmed and available.

Please refer below inputs on the MACID 

macid 0: b8:80:4f:ec:81:72
macid 1: b8:80:4f:ec:81:74

The 2 MAC_IDs represent a sequential start and end range. The “missing” MAC is the one in the middle in this case.

In a very limited test run on my end I have checked the configuration on a ZCE packaged AM3352 (i.e. no PRU-ICSS) and can see that 3 address are flashed. I know this as the macid0 is signifying the lower range and that macid1 is the higher range of assigned MAC addresses.

macid 0: b8:80:4f:ec:81:72
macid 1: b8:80:4f:ec:81:74

The understanding is AM335X family of devices will have 3 MAc address programmed.

Is there a specific device that you would want me to check.

Would the device be  ZCE packaged AM3352?

Yes, I am primarily interested in the ZCE packaged AM3352. But if you could provide an answer for all versions of the AM335x then that's good to have for future reference.
