AM625: AM625 display system capabilities

Hi support team.

I would like to clarify some details regarding the AM625 SoC capabilities.

From the information available in the datasheet and technical reference manual I understand the following

If I use two display interfaces simultaneously (LVDS in single-channel mode and DPI), I can get 1920x1080 @ 60fps for each display.

If I use LVDS in dual-channel mode then I can get 2048x1080 @ 60fps for the LVDS display

If I use two display interfaces simultaneously (LVDS in dual-channel mode and DPI), I can get 2048x1080 resolution for the LVDS display and 1280x720 for the DPI display.

Is it correct?

I know about this thread. I checked all the docs related to the AM625 available on TI's website. The information about display system capabilities available in the datasheet and technical reference manual is a bit messy, in the different places of the official documentation I see different values for the resolution and pixel clock.

I'm preparing documentation for the product based on the AM625 processor and I would like to put there clear information about the product's capabilities but I can't do this because of the reasons mentioned above.

It would be much better if somebody would explain the following part of the AM625 datasheet:

Display subsystem
– Dual display support
– 1920x1080 @ 60fps for each display
– 1x 2048x1080 + 1x 1280x720
– Up to 165 MHz pixel clock support with
Independent PLL for each display

What do these numbers mean? For which display?

Hello,

On AM62x, we have two displays that could be driven independently. Both displays have independent PLLs and that allows users to connect two 1080p displays simultaneously with no restriction on FPS (VSYNC=60 Hz).

The only impact to the system would be bandwidth. On AM62x, we only have 16bit DDR and if GPU or CPU were performing complex operations, they will not have enough bandwidth to get 60 FPS. The performance would vary based on the workload. Given the DDR limitations, we recommend customers to connect a 1920x1080 and 1280x720 screen for dual display to allow GPU and/or CPU to have bandwidth for their respective workload.

The last question.

Resolution 2048x1080 for which display? LVDS in dual-channel mode?

In the datasheet, it is mentioned 1x 2048x1080 + 1x 1280x720 resolution. Why?

Hello,

Both interfaces support upto 165MHz and it's up to the customer to chose the interface. In general, LVDS supports higher resolution panels like (1920x1200 or 2048x1080 or 1280x720) and DPI supports lower resolution panels. The LVDS we have on AM62x could operate in single link or dual mode configuration.
