TDA4VM: Support on issue about DSI clock lanes

Dear TI support teams,

Last time, I have a ticket here: TDA4VM: Issue about camera data of vision_apps

In this ticket I had an issue that there are no data output from DSI. Ticket is resolved and I can measure the DSI data lanes.

But I found an issue that I cannot measure any frequency in DSI clock lanes (both CLK_P & CLK_N). Seems they are noise here.

I think because there is no CLK from DSI, so from my endpoint, the GMSL IC cannot proceed the data.

I also want to check with the DevKit but I see that there are no test point to check the DSI clock lanes.

Could you please help share me what can be the issue here and how can I verify that?

    It is not possible that there is output on datalines, but no clock on DSI output. Are you sure that DSI is enabled, and vision apps is outputting the data? Also are you using continuous clock mode? Because otherwise, clock will be active only when data is sent out..

    At the moment, because there are no display so I only check by terminal log output and measure by oscilloscope. 

    I checked the output log from my implement with the output log of TI Devkit when running vision_apps.

    It seems that everything is fine, I can see the DSS init logs, graph nodes, usage of CPU/Mem, the FPS value and other statistic. It quite similar when using TI DevKit.

    I also measure the data lanes by using the oscilloscope and as you can see in previous post, both P lane and N lane have quite good output here.

    So I think the camera input is OK and vision_apps already have output data.

    Also are you using continuous clock mode? Because otherwise, clock will be active only when data is sent out..

    Can you teach me how to check if I'm using continuous clock or not? I'm not sure about that.

    It is not possible that there is output on datalines, but no clock on DSI output.

    Is it require some software/hardware implement or configuration to have the DSI clock or it will enable by default? Or because my setup of measuring is not correct?

    Could you please guide me how to measure the DSI clock on TI Devkit? I checked the hardware but there are no test point here. So not really sure how to do the measure safely

    regarding continuous clock, by default, as per below statment in the driver, driver configures DSI output in continuous clock mode. So there should be clock output even if there is no data to be sent out. 

    drvObj->phyCfg.laneClkContinous = TRUE;

    Seems that everything still fine (software side), but I still cannot measure any signal on the test point.

    I'm thinking that my custom hw has some issue on the circuit. 

    I want to check my software with the TIDevkit - J721e. But there are no test point in the Devkit. Do you have any idea so I can measure the DSI clock on Devkit?

    Which exactly board are you using? Not sure what you mean by TI Devkit. But since it is differential signal, there might not be test point available. You might have to probe on the connector .

    Please refer to the schematic of this board. There is a DSI FPC connector, you can probably use it to probe the signal, although we haven't really tried it. 

    But why do you want to probe the signal? From EVM, where is the DSI output connected? How are you checking the display of DSI?

    Because it's the first time I work with DSI, So I've never seen the clock before. In my custom board, I connect the DSI to GMSL and the issue is that the GMSL cannot detect the DSI clock.

    That's why I want to check with the EVM to see how the default image give the clock, then check with my image to see if there are anything wrong in my software.

    I just use EVM as a references to compare with my sources. If there are no issue in the software side (both my image and TI default image give same clock output on EVM) => The issue could be from my custom board circuit. That's my idea for now. Is it clear to you? Sorry that I make you confuse.

    How do you detect input frame in GMSL? Are there any registers to confirm that data and/or clock? 

    Can you try the default resolution, ie 1280x800 with the default timing parameters? Lets first see if this default resolution is working fine and is getting detected.

    I changed the resolution to 1280x800 in file: app_display_module.c & app_display_module.h. In the default config, I see it's 1920x1080

    But the result still the same.

    I checked by reading the register of GMSL, there are some register to check valid clock received.

    And follow the instructions from GMSL spec. The CLK_P / CLK_N of the DSI signal clock must be continuous, as non-continuous is not supported by the Serializer. This would cause no PCLKDET

    Even if we don't change DISPLAY_WIDTH/HEIGHT macros in the vision apps display module, we should see some clock activity and probably some data as well. Because DSI output will be enabled at the init time and it should start displaying background color. 

    Can you please check and confirm that below parameters are used in your configuration?

    I checked the source code and see this configuration:

    I also add some logs in the app_init.c & app_dss_soc.c to check the value when performing the command "source ./vision_apps_init.sh"

    I see that the configuration here totally different with yours above. And I also found that the value of pixelClock changes every time I run the "source ./vision_apps_init.sh" command.

    I also tried apply your configuration as below:

    Here the pixelClock also changes.

    Do you have any idea what does it mean? Does it cause any effect?
