Greetings,
We have a requirement for our product to have six byte unique identifier and we've been considering the use of either the Ethernet MAC address or an external serial number IC to provide this unique identifier. To date, all of the AM4378BZDNA100S SOC's that we've used for prototypes have MAC addresses with an OUI of 28:b5:e8. This leaves three bytes for the unique portion of the MAC address, which yields only 4096 unique MAC addresses with the TI OUI.
So, the question is does TI reuse values in the lower three bytes after exhaustion? If so, the MAC address will not suit our needs for a unique ID. If not, how does TI ensure that each MAC address is unique. Does TI issue Sitara processors with OUI's other than 28:b5:e8?
