AM625: How to set MAC for custom boards

Part Number: AM625

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We are going to make a custom board based on the AM625 processor.

As we have two ethernet ports on it, how can we set the custom MAC address for both ports?

Do we need to update any files?

Regards,

Abhishek Lakhara

  • Hi,

I am assuming that you are using Linux. In U-boot there is code that reads the internal MAC-ID that is set at device production. After the MAC-ID is read U-Boot adds the MAC-ID to the board dtb file that is used to boot Linux. When Linux boots this MAC-ID information is read from the dtb by the CPSW driver during initialization.

If you want to assign your own MAC-IDs you would need a place to store them and modify the u-boot code. One method is to use a EEPROM on your board that U-Boot can read that contains the MAC-IDs

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler

  • Thank you,  for the response.

Just for clarification, If we don't set any custom MAC, will all devices have a unique MAC ID?
