TDA4VH-Q1: weston.service does not start

Part Number: TDA4VH-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDA4VH

Tool/software:

I have installed sdk for TDA4VH- (version 09_02_00) according to the steps here https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-linux-j784s4/09_02_00_05/exports/docs/linux/Overview/Download_and_Install_the_SDK.html#download-install-the-sdk-installer-inside-a-container

When I boot the J784S4 TDA4VH evm board, from the SD card, I am not able to start the "weston.service" according the procedure here software-dl.ti.com/.../Graphics_and_Display.html

  • Hello,

Can you check that TIDSS came up? You can run "lsmod | grep tidss" and see that the module was loaded.

The default image in SDK 9.2 changed to use the vision-apps device tree overlay by default, which removes the DSS node from the device tree. You can change this by editing your uEnv.txt in the SD card, and deleting the vision_apps. e.g. "name_overlays=k3-j721s2-vision-apps.dtbo" needs to be removed.

    Regards,

    Erick

  • Thank you Erick, I tested it and it worked. So, it is either the case of running the weston applications through DSS, or  "vision-apps device tree overlay". I have to edit the uEnv.txt by inserting the SD card into my laptop SD card reader.  Is there a way to switch between while board is running? Or edit the uEenv.txt while connected to the board through ttyUSB?

  • Saeid,

Sorry, this thread slipped my inbox.

So, it is either the case of running the weston applications through DSS, or  "vision-apps device tree overlay"

You can only run weston applications through the DSS using the native Linux display framework. Weston will not work with the Vision Apps setup because it relies on a Linux display. The Vision Apps setup gives the R5F firmware control of the display, so the A72 (Linux) is disabled from accessing it.

If you want to run a weston application, stick to the Linux SDK. On SDK 9.2, they made the Vision Apps setup the default, but we just modify the uEnv.txt.

    Regards,

    Erick
