TDA4VM: TDA4 J721E SR2.0 Linux 5.4 kernel “flashcp” error

We use flashcp to update /dev/mtd3，the flashcp return failed.

The probability of occurrence is very low. Below is the log when it appears.

I still haven’t found a way to reproduce the issue.

I want to know what caused this problem and how to solve it.

Hi Felix,

The SDK release and release kernel noted are old. Have you tried using any of the latest SDKs?

The car using SDK 7.2 is already in mass production and is not easy to upgrade.

After this issue occurred, there was still a problem with flashcp again, and it can only be reset by restarting.

Hi,

The current SDK is based on 6.x kernel. Request you to try the 9.2 SDK. The kernel has moved a lot. So better to try once with the latest 9.2 SDK.

Now it is in mass production; making SDK upgrades is too significant a change. Are there any methods to reduce the likelihood of issues occurring, or to recover to the original state after a problem arises?

Hi felix,

I analysed the logs that you have shared. The failure seems related to dma teardown. It's timing out. Now it's not just the flash but even DMA is a suspect. You could download the latest SDK and compare the sources but you can see there will be a lot of changes in multiple layers and multiple drivers. So it's not a trivial task to point out what can fix this.

Referring to the link above, can SDK 7.2 reset the ring before teardown during channel configuration?

If so, how should it be done?

The above fix is not on Linux and was a fix in RTOS.

Could you please advise on why UDMA would stop? Normally, it shouldn’t stop.

Hi felix,

are you by any chance doing dma copy to OCM memory in this flashcp command? That could be one reason why it is timing out. SR2.0 requires extra changes to allow access to OCM memory.
