AM625: Bootup issue

Hi,

We have custom board based on AM625. We pretty much followed AM62-SK(Eval board). Board is not booting. Basically PORZ_OUT is not getting high. We did following checks. Please let me know how to diagnose it further.

1. Checked all voltage rails (3.3_SYS, 1v8_IO,1v8_analog,vddshv_mmc , 1v2, VDD_Core, Vddr_core). All voltages are coming up within the range

2. Checked all PGOOD signals and PGOOD comes high.

2. Checked MCU_OSC0_XI (xin) pin for clock input. Observed clocks comes in within the signal level.

3. Checked MCU_PORz signal. It comes high after all voltage rails gets settled.

4. Checked MCU_RESETz. It comes high.

5.SoC_WARM_RESETz . It comes high.

Still PORZ_OUT is low. As per TRM, if these checks are done, PORZ_OUT should get high to come out of reset.

We even replaced the processor once to check for any assembly issues. Same pattern got observed after replacing the processor. Have taken x-ray for BGA void and everything looks normal. Please let me know is there any debug pin or procedure to findout the issue.

Hi Sreenivasa,

sorry for the delay. Sorry, sharing the schematics needs approval and it takes time. Actually I made some progress. Not after I assert MCU_PORZ, the following signals get high.

1. MCU_RESETSTATZ,PORZ_OUT, RESETSTATZ.

But board is not booted.I set the bootmode in UART. ideally processor should emit "CCCC" character continously. I dont anything in UART_TX line. My question is , once all powersupplies are up, clocking is done and PORZ_OUT comes, how to diagnose this issue?

I am not sure if i can guide you without looking at the schematics on what to look for to debug,

Please provide the full name of the SK you followed so that i can point you to the FAQ that adds design notes and review notes.

I would recommend you review the custom schematics with respect to the below checklist and guide.

This article was useful. Thaks. I had cold solder in bootmode pin (PLL config) and that got cleared now.

Hi Sreenivasa,

Now I have next issue in booting, I am trying uart booting and after SPL stage, boot halted. I tried the same procedure several times in eval board sk-am62

and uart boot perfectly works. please see the cosole ouput below for your reference for custom board. What would be the probable cause?

Are you trying this on a specific board or multiple boards.

Have you read the errata related to UART boot?

What boot is the customer board designed for?

it is best to discuss a specific topic in a thread rather than continued discussion.

This is going to be inefficient when i reassign the thread as the assignee needs to read all the conversations in the thread.

Hi Sreenivasa,

1. I tried in 2 different custom boards(same version) to sure problem is consistent across all boards.

2. Yes. Based on that we have implemented UART boot mode.

3. I tried UART boot. I selected bootmode accordingly.

Shall I close this thread and open seperate thread ? I thought this issue is pertaning to initial boot sequence, I continued.

Another pointer to be noted is, this is second version of the custom board. In first version of the custom board, this UART boot works fine. I didnt have any change related to processor section. Thats why I wanted to know, if a code struck at SPL boot, what would be I looking at it.

Yes please. Please add details on the use case for the UART bootmode on the custom board.

Regarding UART boot mode please read the below Errata

I have neither had a chance to review the previous version of the schematics nor the current version to comment. You are the best to verify.

Please compare the boards for the changes.
