HI Team,

I am trying to understand the integration of MCAN in the MCU R5 core. Find an example of MCAN using MCU_MCAN1 in MCU + SDK.

I wanted to send CAN message using cansend and receive the same in MCU R5 core application. What are the changes that need to be done for this ?

Hi Shanooj,

You can take a reference from the already available internal loopback example for this: https://software-dl.ti.com/mcu-plus-sdk/esd/AM62PX/11_00_00_16/exports/docs/api_guide_am62px/EXAMPLES_DRIVERS_MCAN_LOOPBACK_INTERRUPT.html , The example uses MCU_MCAN0, if you want to use MCU_MCAN1 then you can change this from syscfg:

I have configured it for MCAN1 and am using a VP230 CAN transceiver connected to the MCU header , pin MCU_GPIO_15 for TX (pin 10) and MCU_GPIO_16 for RX (pin 11).

and trying to send a CAN message with cansend (ex.: cansend can0 6351E1C4#DEADBEEF), setting CAN with a bitrate of 1000000.

But in the R5 application, the message is not received. Any suggestions for this ?

Hi Shanooj,

Hi,

Thank you for the informationin my case, I am using a VP230 CAN transceiver and a USB2CAN-Module along with a db9 connector

And setting can0 in my Linux PC for cansend (sudo ip link set can0 type can bitrate 1000000) and using "cansend can0 6351E1C4#DEADBEEF " for sending data

added changed example to external loopback by adding App_mcanConfig(FALSE) -> External loopback

Still not receiving any messages from CAN on both send and receive on both ends.

Any more suggestions on this ?

And how to do CAN probe? using JTAG or any specific tool?

You can use PCAN analyzer for this.

Have you tried running the MCU+SDK loopback example standalone? If not could you just run it once without using the linux, just to verify whether the default loopback example works or not. If that works then you can test this example standalone for external communication, following this: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors-group/processors/f/processors-forum/1329465/faq-sk-am62x-sk-am62a-lp-testing-mcan-external-loopback-example-using-external-transceiver-tcan1042d

You can either connect MCAN1 of AM62P to PCAN or to any other MCU/MPU to verify if you are getting the correct data, this will help us identify whether there is a problem from MCAN example of MCU+SDK or from linux.

Please also make sure that bit rate settings for both MCAN0 and MCAN1 also match, I read from your responses that the bitrate for MCAN0 (linux) is 1Mbps but the default rate set for the MCU+SDK example is 5Mbps.
