AM68: Video Encoder/Decoder performance(vs AM62x)

Part Number: AM68
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM62P,

Tool/software:

Hi,Experts

In the related thread below, it is stated that the VPU of the AM62P is the same as that of the AM68, but isn't it possible that performance other than the VPU is the bottleneck, resulting in different "MP/s" performance values?

  • Hello Hidekazu,

Although the AM62P and the AM68 have the same VPU there are some differences since the AM68 is a higher performance device. First to note is that the AM68 is rated for 600MHz and the AM62P is rated for 500MHz. Although both can support 4k60fps, the AM68 has a clock that is 20% greater which will have some performance boost. Additionally, if you're utilizing the CPU for your usecase (i.e buffer mem-copies, parsing, muxing, etc.) then you could also see some performance differences because of the A72 v.s. A53 cores.

How are you measuring performance? What data are you seeing?

    Thanks,
