AM62A7: Power-on probability does not display the camera image

Part Number: AM62A7

Hi, TI experts,

The specific project details are as follows:
Processor: AM62A7
SDK: 10.00.00.08
Boot method: EMMC boot

The hardware platform was designed by ourselves.

My device has a probabilistic issue where it fails to display the camera image. The probability of this occurring is approximately 1 in 30. Here is the comparison of dmesg information.

normal.txt       no image.txt

image.png

Furthermore, I attempted to directly display the camera image using commands. Here is the comparison of debug logs.

command_normal.txt       command_no image.txt

image.png

It seems that the key mistake is IPC: ERROR: Unable to create TX channels for CPU [c7x_1] !!!

Please assist with the analysis. Thank you.

Best Regards,

Gaogao

  • Hello Gaogao,

It looks like you are initializing the non-Linux cores during u-boot, and then attaching to the non-Linux cores with the Linux remoteproc driver later in boot. The other option is to let the Linux remoteproc driver initialize the non-Linux cores during Linux boot time.

Let's check to see if something is going wrong with that "attach" code (for example, to see if there is a race condition going on somewhere). Please change your u-boot settings so that the C7 core and the MCU R5F are NOT initialized during uboot. Note that you will still see Linux attaching to the DM R5F core, since the DM R5F needs to start running during the SPL or SBL phases.

For more information about how to change the out-of-the-box behavior so that the remote cores are initialized by Linux:

Refer to AM62Ax academy > Linux > Booting Remote Cores
    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?isTheia=false&node=A__AX2DLf3J3o-JHYMSq7Eg0w__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

For more information about booting non-Linux cores in general:

Refer to AM62Ax academy > Multicore > Booting and Disabling Processor Cores
    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?isTheia=false&node=A__Ada-WjvmUg3JmB109NavGA__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

    Regards,

    Nick

  • I would also be curious to see if there are any differences in the print logs for the non-Linux cores in a working and a not-working case.

Please take a look at AM62Ax academy > Multicore > Application Development on Remote Cores > Debug the remote core through the Linux terminal
    https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?isTheia=false&node=A__AfxfZqDGh-M3Xu5tsO1uFQ__AM62A-ACADEMY__WeZ9SsL__LATEST

  •         hi, Nick

    1. According to the reference documents, it should already be linux to initialize the non-linux cores. we did not use env.txt and parts of the U-Boot and Linux boot logs show below:

  • any information?

  • SDK 10.00.00.08

The verification steps on the EVM are as follows:
    1. Burn the program onto the eMMC using the SD card.

    2. Change the startup mode to eMMC.

    3. Power on

    4. Run commands on the serial port

    gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc is-live=true num-buffers=1 ! \
    video/x-raw,width=640,height=480,format=NV12,framerate=60/1 ! \

    multi.src_0 ! video/x-raw, width=1280,height=720,format=NV12 ! queue ! \
    filesink location=/tmp/out0.nv12 sync=true

    5. Check if there is " IPC: ERROR: Unable to create TX channels for CPU [c7x_1] !!! " in the output.

    6. Power off

    7. Repeat steps 3 to 6

  • Dear canjian.

Please help check DSP C7x and DM R5F state w/ JTAG tool. you can load right symbol file then attach to these two cores.

    thanks a lot!

    yong

  • When the DSP C7x fails to boot, CCS reports an error when trying to connect. After a forced connection, the DSP is shown to be stuck while registering the IPC interrupt.

The no-strip version of the MCU cannot run because it exceeds the eMMC partition size allocated for TISPL. With the strip version, adding debug prints shows it’s stuck waiting in appLogCpuSyncWithSlave. The register dumps for the DSP and MCU are in the attachment. boot_dsp_failed-dsp_register.txt

  • Hi, all

We have some progress. When the DSP is registering the IPC interrupt, there are nested disable/enable interrupt operations. We tried to remove this nesting, as shown in the code below. Verification showed that the issue was resolved — after over 500 repeated reboots, the problem did not reappear, whereas previously it would occur roughly every 50 reboots.

    Our questions are:

    1. Is there any issue with this modification of removing the nesting? Is the nesting necessary?

    2. Could this problem be caused by the nesting?
