AM3358: USB VID/PID sublicensing

Part Number: AM3358

Good afternoon,

I am contacting you regarding 2 of our products, which are based on the AM3358BZCZA100 and STM32F777ZIT6 respectively. These products include a USB interface used for communication with a host PC.

I would like to ask whether you offer USB VID/PID sublicensing for this type of application.

If so, could you please confirm:

  • what information you would require from us to assess eligibility?
  • whether there are any commercial, technical, certification, or volume limitations?

Best regards,

Aurelien Petit

  • Hi Aurelien,

Thanks for reaching out!  PID & VID are spported on the AM335x, actually this is a mode on Luinux where you can configure this.  By default it is reported as TI but can be configured.

  • Hi Mahir,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I was more looking at this from a commercial point of view, to avoid paying the $6k fee to get our own Vendor ID.

My understanding is that we cannot use a TI Vendor ID in a commercial product without TI agreeing to it, or without TI providing a PID for the product. See e2e.ti.com/.../am3352-usb-vid-pid-program

I know that for processors from other manufacturers this is sometimes possible, but usually you need to agree to their policy and provide some more details about the product. However, I could not find any information about it.

I appreciate that I may have asked this in a technical forum, while it is probably more of a sales related question.

    Best regards,

    Aurelien

  • Hi Aurelien, I cannot comment on the legality with an end product with a default PID/VID. However, I would recommend using generic PID/VIDs for you specific end product.

    Best Regards,
