Hi,

I am working on the J784S4XG01 EVM and I am not getting the boot splash screen output on any of the DisplayPort output interfaces while booting from the SD card in the EVM kit. I have tried with the default SD card content from the EVM (J784S4 SDK release 10.00) and with the latest available one (release 11.02). The result was the same.

This error appears to be indentical to the linked forum topic on the TDA4VM (error opening /dev/fb0), but this didn't get resolved. I have attached both the boot messages and the dmesg output from booting with release 11.02. Any idea on what might be going on?

Hi Christophe,

Is the goal for early splash screen, or for display functionality for demo?

There was a change in default SD card image which would default to display driver running on R5F using RTOS driver. This makes all vision apps demo run by default, but Linux does not have display control (as indicated by logs such as "connector-dp0: deferred probe pending").

If you do not want to run vision apps demo, and want to run Linux display demos, you would need to comment out the "name_overlays" U-Boot environment variable in "uEnv.txt" file in the boot partition. The vision apps dts overlay disables A72 Linux display functionality, so that R5F RTOS display driver can take control.

Thank you for the swift response. My first goal is to see the early splash screen, to validate the proper operation of the display interface on the EVM. Let me try out the "uEnv.txt" update and get back to you.

I confirm that commenting out the "name_overlays" variable in "uEnv.txt" brings up the splash screen. Many thanks for your support!
