DRA821U-Q1: Kernel panic - not syncing: Asynchronous SError Interrupt

Kernel panic not syncing Asynchronous SError Interrupt.txt

Hi there,

My custom board boots correctly most of time, but occasionally it failed booting with kernel panic messages. I attached the console output (probably missing the first couple of seconds at the beginning). The J7200 SDK version is v10.0.

Can you tell me what may cause this issue?

Thanks,

Charles

  • Hi Charles,

Is there ay possibility of reproducing this issue on the EVM?

Also what is probability of this issue occurring on your custom board?

    - Keerthy

  • Hi Keerthy,

I already started the same test on the EVM. I will let you know whether the same issue occurred on EVM or not next Monday. The probability is very low, like 0.06% over 40 hours test.

The test we were doing is 40 hour power cycle test such as:
    1. Turn on power and wait for 2 seconds
    2. Capture serial console output
    3. In a minute, if we see login prompt in the serial console output, it's a success, otherwise, it's a failure
    4. Turn off power and wait for 5 seconds
    5. Repeat the above test for 40 hours.

Test results on custom board are:
    1. Total failure count: 10 out of 3630 cycles
    2. No serial console output failure: 8 (I think it's not SDK related).
    3. Kernel panic failure: 2 (reported in this ticket)

The test results on EVM so far (2 hours only) are:
    1. Total failure count: 3 out of 245 cycles
    2. No serial console output failure: 3
    3. Kernel panic failure: 0

While we are waiting for the complete results on EVM, can you check the last portion of the log I shared and see if you can pin point to which module or software caused kernel panic?

    Thanks,

    Charles

Not much clue from the above crash. ti_sci_inta_irq_handler is the interrupt aggregator but this can be due to lot of dependent modules.

  • Hi Keerthy,

The same issue has been observed once on EVM so far. Please check out the attached log file - cycle_547_uart.log.
