Hello,

My application development needs real time image processing. I need to read raw data form camera port and convert it to grey image at 30 fps.

1>what camera module would you suggest me with the LSDK.

2>can i use openCV with it?

3>which is better ARM or DSP for this application?

4>do you have any example or reference design guide for this kind of application development?

Hi Abdul,

What is the resolution of the images you want to capture?Generally it has been observed that vision and analytics based applications run faster on the DSP than on the ARM core but if this is a simple low resolution loop back and color space conversion then you can use either processors. OpenCV 1.x binary release is part of the C6BIOS SDK for C6748 LCDK platforms and has an face detect example in the SDK. If you remove the object detect routine from the demo, you should be able to achieve 30 fps performance using a D1 camera with the video port.

For Raw image capture there are users who have used Aptina MT9M034 color sensor (see discussion below) and MT9T031(ARM side linux driver) but we don`t provide any sample code for this sensor on the DSP side

There is a linux side sample code for the OMAPL138 EVM that you may need to port for the LCDK.

THE RESOLUTION OF IMAGE SHOULD BE 640X480. IS THERE ANY SPECIFIC NAME FOR THE D1 CAMERA? OR CAN YOU PROVIDE ME A LINK SO THAT I CAN BUY IT. MY APPLICATION IS DSP BASED SO I WOULD LIKE TO USE DSP PROCESSOR. ARE THERE ANY OTHER CHEAP CAMERAS WHICH CAN BE INTERFACED WITH OMAPL138 EVM?

Hi Abdul,

By D1 resolution camera, I was refering to a CCD camera with composite input. They are pretty cheap and should provide you the required resolution. Note the output from them is generally interleaved or sub sampled in most cases.

ok..thanks...i ahve one more question does this board has onboard emulator?...if not then can you please suggest me a cheap third party emulator? xds510 usb is quite costly....

Hi Abdul,

The LCDK does not have an onboard emulator. An external emulator from TI or a third-party will be required to start developing on it. (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/L138/C6748_Development_Kit_(LCDK))

The OMAP-L138 EVM includes an XDS100 USB emulator on the board. You can use this emulator to get started immediately, or you can also purchase stand-alone emulators, such as XDS510 or XDS560. You can also purchase stand-alone XDS100 emulators for use with your own custom board. Here are some links to the product folders for these emulators:

Again, you do not need to purchase a stand-alone emulator to load and debug applications on the EVM board. Hope this helps.

on the wiki it says OMAPL138 doesnt have onboard emulator and you need to buy one emulator inorder to load and debug application.

but above thread conflicts with what wiki mentions.

can you please tell me do i need an external emulator for omapl138 lcdk or not? if no, then how should i load my program on lcdk and debug?

please clarify...

OMAP-L138 EVM's has the on-board emulator whereas OMAP-L138 LCDK does not have on-board emulator.
