66AK2H DDR3 recommendation and implementation guideline

Hello,
I am evaluating 66AK2H06.
I have some questions about DDR3 design for 66AK2H06.

The datasheet describes (sprs866b: P304) :

 - Where can I get the "The DDR3 Implementation Guidelines Application Report" ?

And,
 - Do you have plan for supporting DDR3 DIMM by 66AK2H06?
Or have it been  already supported?

If DIMM can be supported,
 - Do you have recommendation list of DDR3 DIMM? (Vendor, Model number, etc..)

Best regards, RY

  • Hi RY,

Please refer below documents for DDR3.

DDR3 Memory Controller User Guide (SPRUGV8)

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sprugv8c/sprugv8c.pdf

DDR3 Design Requirements for KeyStone Devices: (sprabi1)

Please let us know if you need any information.

    Thanks.

  • Rajasekaran K-san,

Thank you so much for your reply.
May I confirm about your answer?

These are the documents for KeystoneI(C667x, C665x).
    Is it applied to KeystoneII(66AK2Hxx)?

Because, the datasheet recommends "The DDR3 Implementation Guidelines Application Report".
And, It also describes that "TI supports only designs that follow the board design guidelines outlined in the application report".
    So, I am worried.

  • RY-san,

The DDR3 Design Requirement document describes the implementation of your DDR3 interface on your PCB and the routing requirements for the interface. This should be common between KeyStone I and KeyStone II devices. The DDR3 Memory Control Users guide is not common. The KeyStone II version of that document has not been released yet but should be available soon.

To answer your other questions, we do support JEDEC compliant UDIMM and SODIMM modules and we have tested a number with the 66AK2H. The JEDEC spec for memory UDIMM and SODIMM modules is very strict and I would expect that we should work with any that are compliant and within the speed grades that the 66AK2H supports. The modules we used were from Micron. I'll see if I can get the part numbers. The 66AK2H does not support any RDIMM (registered DIMM) modules.

  • Bill-san,
Thank you so much for your support.

OK. I will check the above documents.
And I have been able to see the following document.

DDR3 Memory Controller for KeyStone II Devices User's Guide

Thank you very much for your advice.
    I understood.
Could you update me the part numbers of Micron DIMM later?

  • RY-san,

I just noticed that the DDR3 Memory Controller for KeyStone II Devices Users Guide has been added to the TCI6638K2K and the 66AK2Hxx web pages as well.  Sorry for the misinformation. Note that the devices identified in the above link are dual-rank type DDR3 UDIMMs. Single rank UDIMMs were also tested.

    Regards, Bill
