Now i am flashing MLO and u-boot.img to NAND using SD boot.

But its not booting.

Please share your NAND flashing procedure/commands.

Keep in mind that you need to respect the specified NAND layout.

I have followed the same user guide. I am using Hynix nand flash.

nandecc hw 2 (for bch8)

mmc rescan
fatload mmc 0 0x82000000 MLO
nand erase 0x0 0x20000
nand write 0x82000000 0x0 0x20000

mmc rescan
fatload mmc 0 0x82000000 u-boot.img
nand erase 0x80000 0x40000
nand write 0x82000000 0x80000 0x40000

Then i set NAND boot mode and rebooted the system. But its not booting from NAND.

1. What version of the SDK/PSP are you using? Since PSP version 04.06.00.09-rc2 only BCH8 ECC algorithm is supported, so you don't need to use the "nandecc" command.

2. It is strongly recommended to have 3 copies of the MLO in the NAND memory after the original MLO, each with 0x20000 offset from the previous one, as shown in the NAND Layout:

The SPL backups are required in case corruption occurs.

3. Please provide more information (a log) of what exactly is displayed (if anything) when the NAND boot fails.

4. How is your NAND flash connected to the GPMC? Is the GPMC WAIT0 signal connected?

Hi Miroslav,

Actually we are using u-boot-2011.09

We have 3 copies of the MLO in the NAND memory after the original MLO as you said, still not booting from NAND.

Only 'CCCC' is printing on the console.

GPMC is connected to NAND as AM335x EVM SK. GPMC_WAIT0 signal is connected.

I am setting SYSBOOT 11001

I cannot find the datasheet on the Internet. Sorry, without a datasheet I cannot tell if this NAND is compatible or not.

Yes, this NAND is fully compatible with the AM335X.

Shinu, I noticed that you erase only 0x40000 of the NAND before writing u-boot.img. The u-boot.img file is typically larger than that and its region in the NAND flash layout is with a size of 0x1E0000.

Please follow these steps to reflash the NAND. Don't do it partially. Erase the whole NAND and then write the new content:

<set nandecc if needed>

Try if it works correctly.

Then, if you wish to re-flash just a part of the NAND, you need to first erase the NAND at the appropriate offset and with the appropriate size and then write the binary. For example u-boot.img's size is around 350KB, so 0x60000 bytes should be enough:

U-Boot# nand erase 0x80000 0x60000
U-Boot# mmc rescan
U-Boot# fatload mmc 0 0x82000000 u-boot.img
U-Boot# nand write 0x82000000 0x80000 0x60000

If you forget to erase the region before you write to it, you will corrupt the ECC. Please do this cleanly and see if it works.

I tried this too. But still the same. Only "CCCC..." is printing on console :(

Please confirm that SYSBOOT pins 10 and 11 are both in "0" state.

Also please try writing the NAND flash using the latest version of U-Boot which comes with the latest TI SDK version 06.00.00.00. The included version of U-Boot is v2013.01. This is the version I'm using to verify the commands I posted in my previous post.

SYSBOOT pin 10 and 11 are both in 0 state.

I could not find 'nandecc' command in u-boot prompt.

How do i enable it ?
