I am using CCSV4.2.4 connected via JTAG to a TMS320VC5502 using a XDS100v2 Emulator. When using "Debug" mode in CCSV4, I can connect to the TMS320 and the program appears to load without errors. I can "run" the program, "breakpoints" appear to function correctly, but the processor does not appear to function. I know the Target Board works, because the program runs when loaded from the attached (via I2C) EEPROM. For example, writing some bits in the PGPIODAT0 register should cause several LEDS to light - this does not happen, even though the debugger shows that the step was executed. It's almost as if I'm running simulator, although powering down the TMS320 results in a "disconnected" error message from CCSV4.

Any chance you can update CCS to at least version 5.5?

I know in the past, CCS4 was not anywhere near as stable as CCS5. CCS6 is better, but CCS5 is where a lot of stability came in. I saw this on C55x and on F28335 processors.

Ok. SInce your time is tight. A quick observation is the MMR defination: GEL_MapAdd(0x000000u,1,0x000050u,1,1); /* MMRs */. MMR is the first 192 bytes of DARAM0. Thus, should it be: GEL_MapAdd( 0x000000u, 1, 0x000060u, 1, 1 ); instead?

I agreed. CCS5 is best for C55 in my experience.Regards.

Are you sure this GEL is for C5502? What is IO Space 0x1C00 in C5502? PLL is from 0x1C80 to 0x1C98. Please confirm.

Hi Todd. I tried the latest version of CCSv6, but never found a compiler for the TMS320VC5502 that would work with it. CCSV4 came with the TMS320C5502 development kit, which at least compiles. That's why I'm using it.

I'm not sure where this GEL file came from - maybe the TMS320C5502 development kit CD? This project is essentially a modification of code I wrote for a product in current production about 4 years ago, long enough that all but the C source and include files have disappeared.

I'll read the TMS320VC5502 specification for details on memory allocation ...

I know that the vc parts are different than the c parts, so my c5535 may not be of much help...

You may want to give them a call and see if the vc part is supported by the latest level of CCS - I would think yes, but it still might be worth checking in with them - (281) 494-4500.

Please allow me to clarify, VC5509 is supported up to CCS5, not in CCS6. The "VC" is shorted as "C" in CCS5's Target Configuration menu. If you want to upgrade the CCS4, upgrade to CCS5.

I think I now understand the problem. I "stole" the GEL file from the software that was distributed in the TMS320C5502 development kit, wherein the EMIF mode is enabled. EMIF mode changes the function of most of the DI/DO pins, including the ones that I am using for LEDs, control of the CC1200 radios, etc. I'll remove the lines in the GEL file that enable EMIF mode and try again.

I'll wait on moving to CCSV5 - so far CCSV4 has been reasonably stable.

Now it works! The GEL file that I used included the command "*(short *) XBSR@I) |= 0x0001", which enables EMIF mode. Now that that line is out, thinks work as expected.
