[DM816x] Thermal shutdown feature

Hello Folks,

We would like to understand the behavior of DM816x processor when the junction temperature exceeds the maximum. We could not find any information regarding this in the Datasheet or TRM. Below are our queries in this regard,

  1. Does DM816x has thermal shutdown feature?
  2. What will happen when the processor junction temperature reaches the max junction temperature?
  3. Is the processor expected to recover/restart once the junction temperature comes down?

Please note that we have used active heat sink in the system and would like to understand the above mentioned scenarios as there are failures being reported.

Your quick response on this will help us.

Thanks,
Srijan

No, DM816x does not have. Thermal shutdown feature we have for newer devices, like OMAP4470 for example.

Failure to maintain a junction temperature within the range specified reduces operating lifetime, reliability, and performance—and may cause irreversible damage to the system. I expect the device to hang/stuck above this 95C or at least to not function properly.

I do not think the processor will recover itself once the junction temperature comes down. I think you should reset the processor to recover it.

See also the below wiki page, it is for AM335x, but applicable also for DM816x
