VLAN tagged packets are received.

Hi everyone.

I am working on adding VLAN support on DM8148. I followed the instruction in reference manual for configuring the VLAN. Now, after that, when I receive packets, they are still VLAN tagged. Should not this tag removed on Ingress so that my software do not need to be aware if a VLAN is configured? As per TRM, the VLAN tag is not removed for all the packets on host port on ingress

Remember, I am operating in Dual MAC mode and my ALE is in bypass mode.

Have you tried with the below settings?

CPSW_CONTROL[2] RX_VLAN_ENCAP = 0
ALE_CONTROL[6] EN_VID0_MODE = 1

VLAN support
– 802.1Q compliant
• Auto add port VLAN for untagged frames on ingress
• Auto VLAN removal on egress and auto pad to minimum frame size

What would be default VLAN id?

I am operating in dual mac mode so that two VLAN's could be present at a time.

I face another problem. As per TRM,

What I perceive from it is that the VLAN tag is added after the packet leaves port1/port2. I have set the Port VLAN registers accordingly. But when I see the packet, it contains the VLAN id from P0_VLAN_Register not from P1_VLAN_Register/P2_VLAN_Register.

Before we proceed towards reproducing the issue, can you please tell me what does Pn_VLAN_Register's VLAN_ID field mean just to rule out any possibility of my misunderstanding. Practically what I see is that P1_VLAN_Register/P2_VLAN_Register's VLAN_ID do not play any part on egress packets but P0_VLAN_Register does.

This is what we have in TRM:

"Port 0 receive packet data is never modified. VLAN is not removed regardless of the force untagged egress bit for Port 0."

Also, each port has a port VLAN that is used for untagged received packets. There is only one port VLAN for each port. That port vlan is used for received untagged packets. However, each port can be a member of multiple vlans.

Agreed.

Now, as Port 0 is tagging its VID to the packets, should I change the P0 VLAN ID on the fly to send packets to VLAN 1 and VLAN 2? Remember I am operating in dual MAC mode.
