OMAP-L138: LCD for OMAP-L138 Development Kit (LCDK)

Part Number: OMAP-L138

I understand that the OMAP-L138 LCDK only works in raster mode (LIDD mode not supported) and is interfaced through the J8, db15 VGA connector.

Can anyone please provide parts numbers of LCD modules that work for this board with VGA interface? Your help is appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Sheri

  • Hi Sheri,

I've forwarded this to the hardware experts. Their feedback should be posted here.

  • Sheri,

The VGA port in the LCDK is intended to display the content in the monitor. If you want to use the LCD display module, you may consider interface through P1, P2 connectors on the LCDK.

Please refer below thread for compatible LCD module.

  • Hello Senthil,

I'm confused. It was reported that Raster mode was  for the VGA  connector only. Are you saying that it can be run through the p1 and p2 connectors?? I thought p1 and p2 was for LIDD, which is not supported on the LCDK board. Please advise on what is correct, and more details.

    Thank you.

  • Hello again Sentil,
I think this has been reported before that Beagleboard recommended LCD in the above link has been discontinued.
I am very disappointed in T.I. with regards to the OMAP-L138 LDCK. In the technical manuals, advertising for the board, data sheets, etc...is not accurate in it's LCD information. I am very surprised that the information hasn't been updated, and it makes especially very difficult for new users who are learning the technology. It sends them down paths where they think they are not programming something correctly, or looking for something that doesn't exist. If there is something I am missing please advise. Still looking for an LCD for this board. Respectfully,
    Sheri
  • Hi Sheri

This post was bought to my attention. Senthil is out of office this week, so I am replying on his behalf.

We appreciate the feedback on this. The original LCDK was designed with the then available Circuit Co ULCD7 in mind, which was readily available off the shelf. Unfortunately this has been discontinued by the vendor, and we are not aware of any off the shelf LCD that will work the LCDK board.

It is likely that you will need to create some sort of adapter board to evaluate an LCD, and potentially need to develop the drivers for it. At this point, we are not planning to develop any additional daughtercard/capes with LCD to work with the LCDK board.

You are correct that the documentation should call out this limitation, and for what its worth I have added a note on the LCDK wiki under the interfaces section

Let us know if you have any additional questions on this.
