Hello,

Does DRA7x (Processor SDK Linux Automotive) support EMMC5.0?

Currently we are using an EMMC which support 4.51 but for the supply issue we should switch to the one with eMMC 5.0 support.

Please let me know if we can use eMMC 5.0 with DRA7x.

Hi Dwarakesh,

Yes, in J6 TRM and Processor SDK Linux Automotive Data manual it's eMMC v4.5 but I'd like to know if there are any possibilities to support v5.0 since I could see it's already supported by DM37xx and AM series.
I'd like to know 1) if it's totally impossible to support eMMC v5.0 with J6 or 2) possible with some minor modifications in SDK or 3) possible with the SDK as it is.

Hi,

Looks like v5.0 is backward compatible with v4.5. So I think we can use it.

Hi James,

I think you can use eMMC v5.0 with J6 device, but you will not be able to use the new features of v5 comparing to v4.5. J6 linux driver support v4.5

Hi Pavel,

So, do you mean other than the new features of v5.x we can use eMMC v5.x with latest Processor SDK LA for booting and normal storage operation without modification or still we need some modifications in PSDKLA (like timing, etc.)?

I think some porting efforts should be done, depending on the difference between your eMMC v5.x custom board and eMMC v4.51 DRA7x TI EVM (j6evm5777).

DRA7x TI EVM comes with MTFC8GLWDM-3M HS200 capable v4.51 eMMC device, attached on MMC2, with voltage level of 1.8V to support HS200 speed mode. And latest PSDKLA 3.02 provide support for that configuration.
