66AK2G02: Questions about 66AK2G02 parallel interface + 1024K FFT

Part Number: 66AK2G02
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FFTLIB, , TMS320C6748, 66AK2G12

We are trying to use this chip for a new DSP project. We need to read data at over 100 Mbytes per second from FPGA (ADC samples).

Bus width should be 16 or 32 bits.

I was wondering if there is any parallel interface which can read at that data rate in this microprocessor?

In this project, we need to do 1 Meg FFT (1024K).

Can we use hte routines in FFTLIB for this CPU?

On the FFTLIB page it says that it works with 66AK2E02 (With "E" not with "G") : http://www.ti.com/tool/FFTLIB

Is it because this library was posted in 2014 before the 66AK2G02 was released?

If it does not wirk with the G02, I would like to know which FFT library works with that CPU?

What is the time required to do 1024K FFT on that processor?

  • A colleague who can assist has been notified of your query. Please expect some delay in our responses due to the holidays.
    Thanks for your patience.

  • I have the same question.
Can we use FFTLIB for 66AK2G02?
  • We decided to quit from this processor and move to TMS320C6748.We are definetly not going to wait 3 weeks for answers!!! Even if 1 of those weeks was holidays.

In the TMS320C6748 we get answers after 1-2 days.

Another reason is that the 66AK2 requires at least 10 power supply modules for operation. Those modules cost more than the CPU itself!

The TMS320C6748 requires only 3 or 4 simple power supply modules.

  • Hi Aronii
Thanks for your feedback here. I regret that you have not had a good experience with K2G support. The underlying set of experts supporting both K2G and c6748 products is the same, so I assure you , you will be in good hands.
We did have a little hiccup in support during holidays, but now we are striving to have customer issues addressed as soon as we can.
K2G is relatively new compared to c6748, so some times support queries may inherently take longer.
Both device choices are great , c6748 definitely has much more unique power-performance-cost sweet spot.
However if you are looking for a Cortex A class ARM, c66x DSP and higher performance (c6748 will tap out at 456 MHz) - both K2Gx and AM570x family may still be relevant for you.

There are 2 sets of references for power management solutions for K2G, and I hope you have seen both. The processor has a good amount of integration so it does have more power railes.

Please look at the following post
    e2e.ti.com/.../654782

This talks about the existing power supply design that supports the 600 MHz K2G and below has pointers for 1GHz K2G version.

Existing 66AK2Gx evaluation module will be updated with TPS65911A + 66AK2G12 in near future. It’s just a BOM change.

Another power solution option for K2G is discrete power solution used on the 66AK2Gx ICE.

So if you have additional follow up questions on system BOM concerns please do open up a new post - in case at any point you need to reconsider K2G for your higher performance needs.

  • Hi Kaizu-san
Could you please open a new post for your request.
I will highlight to the software team to expect this query from you.
    Regards

  • I really did not have any experience at al with the 66AK2G support team or CPU but the fact is that 3 weeks are over and stil there is no answer for the simple question posted here.
I understand that you don't like customers to complain on forums and now you ask Mr. Kaizu to open a new forum.
It is OK with me, I'm not interested in the answer. I have made my decision.
