Hello experts,

I created PDK example projects using pdkProjectCreate.bat file for AM335x icev2AM335x. Imported and compiled UART_BasicExample_icev2AM335x_armExampleProject project. I followed instruction provided in "Rebuilding The PDK" wiki page to debug. I need extra information to successfully test the application. Information like which uart has been used (I assumed uart0 which I connected to com port via MAX ). I don't see any data in the terminal.

It would be very helpful if there is any AppNote which clearly explains how to run this example project. Without running this basic projects I can't move further on my task. Kindly guide me through this issue. Thank you!

Note: I just started working with TI boards from last week so all my doubts might sound lame.

Not lame at all! :) Good questions.

The ICEv2 UART example (UART_BasicExample_icev2AM335x_armExampleProject) exercises UART3 via the micro USB connector J13. This connector doubles up as the JTAG and UART where you can launch Teraterm/putty, etc, and see the UART output. Baud 115200.

The UART instance is defined here C:\ti\pdk_am335x_1_0_9\packages\ti\board\src\icev2AM335x\include\board_cfg.h

For reference, the board schematics are available here processors.wiki.ti.com/.../AM335x_Industrial_Communications_Engine_Board_Design_Files in case you wanted to see where things connect.

Hello Lali,
Can I get some information on this example project.
1. How to change the instance of UART. (In my case I want to use UART 1 i.e., UART in profibus line)
2. This example uses UART0 i.e., usb line
3. The other example uartEcho present in AM335X_StarterWare_02_00_01_01 presently failing while debugging at MMUInit().

My present thought is to use UART present in profibus line to communicate with modbus slave.

1. The uartEcho example project compiles successfully. while debugging fails at MMUConfigAndEnable(). i.e when MMUInit((unsigned int*)pageTable); function is called. Do you know what change i should do to fix this :-(

2. Speaking about www.ti.com/.../sprac32a.pdf this appnote, I followed same steps but UART_read or UArt_write api was getting blocked :-(

Anyhow will try 2nd point again but can you have a look at point 1 which I mentioned about MMUInit().

Note this file gives some changes required to do with respect to beaglebone
example t the bottom of am335x_pinmux.h, change extern pinmuxBoardCfg_t gAM335xPinmuxData[]; to extern pinmuxBoardCfg_t gBbbPinmuxData[];

Please indicate terms to be used for ICEv2AM3359.

I don't have the exact details for the ICEv2 conversion, but you should be able to see the syntax to use if you look alongside the definition of gBbbPinmuxData.

For example C:\ti\pdk_am335x_1_0_9\packages\ti\starterware\board\am335x\am335x_icev2_pinmux_data.c contains the pinmux definitions for ICEv2 and if you look at the bottom of that file pinmuxBoardCfg_t gIceV2PinmuxData[] =

Hello Lali,

Yes I tried that but still the example exercises UART3 via the micro USB connector J13. In my case I have to use UART1 via profibus connector J9.
I#m also trying to create a new project apart from example, wherein I'm actually trying to use UART API like
UART_Params_init(&instance_params);
uart_instance = UART_open(, &instance_params);

I'm not able to use driver code. I included path but still the APIs are extern function so no reference to it. Can you please specify how exactly to utilize the available driver/Hal code in the project. I read quite a few documents and also few videos which are concentrating only on example projects.

In short how to use UART1 via profibus connector J9 and how to use APIs in the newly created projects. Thank you! Please respond as quick as possible.

Hi Lali,

According to this file e2e.ti.com/.../675848 I made necessary changes. In fact I removed UART 0, UART3 and UART4, as I need UART1, retained only UART1 in PINMUX tool and generated file for starterware. Followed all steps carefully, generated UART example project and once I run the project yet UART3 via USB connector is been exercised. Any additional information required to understand my issue better?

Vinay,

You are trying to enable pins D15 and D16 and get UART1 out of DB9 J9?
If so, there is a Profibus transceiver U28 that's sharing UART1.

Which source file has the MMUInit() where your example is failing?
It should show you when you step through the code.
