TMS320DM6437: NAND(MT29F1G08ABAEAH4) ECC calculation

Part Number: TMS320DM6437

(ST)NAND512W3A2SZA6E is now EOF, so we use (Micron)MT29F1G08ABAEAH4 instead according to the SPRAAG0E ( Using the TMS320DM643x Bootloader ).

Should I need to add an ecc algorithm to make sure the the system's stability ? If the answer is yes, where should I need to change; and if no ,why?

Hi Denny,

You should use DM64x EMIF NAND hardware for ECC.

In NAND Flash mode, the EMIF hardware is able to calculate the error correction code (ECC) for each 512 byte data transfer.
When a chip select space is configured to operate in NAND Flash mode, the EMIF hardware can calculate the error correction code (ECC) for each 512 byte data transfer to that chip select space.

Hi Pavel,

Does it means that we need to turn off the hardware ecc calculaton after we boot the DM6437 device?

If we turn off the hardware ecc calculation, we should do software ecc calculation,right?

Does the SDK Ti provided supply software ecc calculation function?

Hi Pavel,

Sorry for late reply.

I didn't got any reply from the parter you providing.

According to your suggestion,the hardware ecc can work simultaneously with the on-die ecc nand and there won't be any problem.

How do they both ecc algorithm work? I mean which one do first ,hardware ecc or on-die ecc?

Denny,

If you are planning to use "on-die" built in NAND Flash ECC, then you must disable DM64x ECC (in uboot/kernel), you should not use both at the same time.
