Hi,

I am involve in a project using TMS320C6678. I would like to perform a serial communication to let the computer and the board send and receive binary data, which cable should I use? the USB (JTA) or the RS232? Thanks!

Hi,

I assume you are using the UART interface of the device, right? In that case it would depend on your board design, you can use both. For example on the reference TMS320C6678 EVM uart-to-usb is used so you can use the USB cable. If you have a board where you have RS232 connector you can use RS232 cable.

I see. So this means I can use either of the two? Because my TMS320C6678 EVM comes with an RS2323 cable.

I am very new to this interfacing method so can I ask if after I've successfully written a binary data to the serial port using Matlab, how can I get these binary data in CCS since I need to use it as an input to my system? Thank you so much!

Hi,

Are you using this EVM:
www.ti.com/.../tmdsevm6678
Usually the RS232 cables are used for the serial console to the host PC.

Where have you written the data using Matlab? DDR or some external memory? If it is in DDR you can view the DDR contents using the Memory browser in CCS (View-> Memory Browser).

So, it won't work if I use the usb cable? I've written the binary code to the port object that I've made in Matlab using Matlab functions for serial communication.

Hi,

For Matlab support on TMS320C6678, please contact Mathworks. This is a third party software and TI does not support it.

Oh I see. Since I am using this board I cannot use the usb cable for serial communication?
