AM3352: Powering the AM335x with the TPS65217x

Part Number: AM3352

Hello Team,

My customer is going to use both of our AM3352 & TPS65217C.

Their connection with the PMIC (TPS65217C) is based on the PMIC User's Guide (SLVU 551 page 8) (Direct connection with only 4.7K pull-up).

However, CPU VOL:0.45V, PMIC VIL is 0.4V, so this is a problem.

Their circuit is copy from PMIC user guide, but as mentioned above, the specifications do not match.

Please refer to the attached document.

AM3352 with TPS65217.pptx

Could you let me know the reason why our user’s guide has such a connection ?

Best Regards,

Jin

  • Hi,

If you look in the attached document yourself, you will see that AM335x VOL is specified as maximum 0.45V at 4mA load current. At the same time the PMIC VIL is maximum 0.4V and maximum input current is 1uA. If you add the I2C pullup resistors, they will give additionally approx. 700uA from 3.3V. So total load current on AM335x side will be maximum 701uA. At this load the VOL of AM335x will be at least twice lower than the maximum 0.45V from the specification.

There is no issue here, this design has been proven in millions of customer devices.
