Unfortunately we can not use the ethernet port. Board does not have an IP address.

I saw this thread trying to solve ethernet problem. https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/646456

I suppoze the same problem with us.  Maybe our problem is also about .dts files.

I changed "phy_id = <&davinci_mdio>, <0>" to the "phy_id = <&davinci_mdio>, <4>" at am437x-gp-evm.dts (referenced am437x-sk-evm.dts)
But nothing changed. There is no ethernet connection.

ifconfig command output is

root@am437x-evm:~# ifconfig

Can you give advice on this issue?

Mehmet

  • Hi,

Lets concentrate on eth0 initially. You will not be able to do any Ethernet connectivity until this no link detected issue is resolved. Currently it looks like there is not a link partner attached to eth0. From the above ethtool output

    PHYAD: 0

    Link detected: no

From the boot log that was attached a PHY is answering up as address 0, which matches the address reported in ethtool:

    davinci_mdio 4a101000.mdio: phy[0]: device 4a101000.mdio:00, driver Micrel KSZ9031 Gigabit PHY

Per your earlier question about PHY addressing I would change it back to 0, like your first entry

    phy_id = <&davinci_mdio>, <0>

The reason I say that is because there is a PHY at address 0 that the kernel sees as reported by the boot log. There is not a PHY at address 4 detected by the kernel. Changing the PHY address in the DTS may not mean your Ethernet will work though. After changing the address check to see if the ethool command is indicating a link detected. If not then something is most likely going wrong with the PHY from a HW perspective and will require debug with the PHY vendor.

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler

  • Hello Schuyler,

    Thanks for your interest.

I changed PHY address back to 0.

    I checked ethool command.

    Still Link detected: no

Like you said, something is most likely going wrong with the PHY from a HW perspective.

  • Hi,

The link not being detected is not good. Ethtool is showing auto negotiation is advertised so when reset is released the PHY will try to auto negotiate the link with a link partner without any processor interaction software wise. Since the link is not detected the PHY would be the first place to start debug. The PHY vendor hopefully offers a guide. From past experience from customers have reported back things like voltage not correct, mode option resistors not correct etc.

Since this looks to be a PHY issue for the moment I will close the thread for now. You can re-open if you find additional things after the PHY issue is resolved.

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler
