TMS320C5517: I have a question about the size of EVM 5517 NAND Flash.

Part Number: TMS320C5517

Hello,

EVM 5517 has a NAND flash connected to EMIF-CS4.
EMIF-CS4 is a 1MByte area.
The capacity of NAND Flash is 64M Bytes.

Since NAND Flash is mapped to the CS4 space, is it only possible to access up to 1M bytes?

If the NAND interface register is accessed directly, is it possible to access up to 64M bytes?

I am not that familiar with C5000 devices, but it should be possible to access the whole nand flash connected on the EVM.

Which is the correct NAND size connected to this EVM?

p6 4 MB NAND Flash memory

p8 NAND Flash External-CS4 Space (E00000h-E03FFFh) => 16kbytes?

You should refer to the schematic at the end of the document. The used NAND Flash is K9F1208R0C.

I have another question.

C5517 EVM Key Feature NOR is 2MB, Memory Map is 0x800000-0xBFFFFF and 4MB.
Is the actual usable capacity 2MB?

I would like to correct some guidance that was provided earlier on the thread.

NAND flash memory is not a direct addressable memory. It is organized in form of blocks and pages and needs an address/data based protocol to access. So direct addressible memory in device memory map for EMIF CE doesn`t apply to NAND devices. Customer on C55x have used large capacity NAND flash parts as you can see from here:

On the other hand parallel NOR flash devices can be directly addressible from EMIF CE address map and will depend on whether it is 8 bit or 16 bit NOR flash part.

There are other problems with this C5517 EVM,

Key Feature
• 4 MB NAND Flash memory
• 2 MB NOR Flash memory

Implemented device
• NAND 64M bytes
• NOR 64M Bytes

Since the entire CS2 space is mapped, it can be up to 4M bytes.
NOR <> EMIF
A22 <> BA [0]
A21 <> A20
:
A1 <> A0
A0 <> BA1

Since the size seen from the circuit diagram can be considered as follows, is the Key feature incorrect?

Up to 64MB NAND Memory
Up to 4MB NOR Memory
