I'm currently using the TMS320C5515 development board also called the FDK and I need to add external memory to the board in order to cater for the storage of more elaborate applications and for the processing of larger grayscale images. According to TI's documentation this can easily be done using the External Memory Interface (EMIF), but I have the following questions:
1.) What will the difference be in speed compared to 320kb internal memory?
2.) Does someone perhaps have any sample source code for this?
3.) My understanding is that TI doesn't manufacture add-on memory modules, so does anyone perhaps know where I can get hold of these memory modules. I'll really appreciate it if someone can supply me with component part names or numbers.
4.) I realise that I might have to design a new PCB layout and build up a new board in order to add an external memory module to this chip so does someone perhaps have a PCB reference design for this so that I don't have to design this from scratch?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andre
Sorry I forgot to mention what type of memory I'll be needing. I need to add either DARAM or SARAM.
Thanks,
Andre
Hello Andre,
For the sample code to do this, you can get examples as part of the Chip Support Library here. Also for a reference design, you can use the FDK board layout as a starting point. Refer to this post for more details. There are also quite a few other posts about the FDK which might be useful to you. Try searching for 'fingerprint memory' in the community to get more information about implementing your application.

Hi Mugdha, thank you so much for your reply.
I managed to download the gerber files for the FDK core board, so I'll try to figure out how to connect a DARAM memory module to this board.
In order for me to carry on with this I'll at least need to know what suitable memory chipsets are available for me to use? Will you please provide me with this info?
Thanks,
Andre
Hi Andre,
You can go to the Spectrum digital website and look at the various component that they have used for the various evaluation boards for C5000. They have a BOM list on the product page. For ex: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/evm5515/revb/
Hope this helps...
