TDA4VM: how to use TDA4x internal PCIe-Reference clock connect 2 TDA4x through PCIe interface.

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hi Experts:

Our customer need connect 2 TDA4x through PCIe interface. Whether TDA4x support generate 100MHz PCIe reference clock?

I can find that feedback PCIe reference clock can output 100MHz. (https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/865372)

We will connect TDA4x No1 pin AD15/AE14 to TDA4x No2 pin AD15/AE14. TDA4x No1 as master send out 100MHz clock.

But TRM said that PCIe reference clock just input mode.

My question is:

1. Whether TDA4x PCIe reference clock can send out?

2. Could you please provided the reference control step for setting PCIe reference clock 100Mhz send out mode?

Best Regards!

Han Tao

  • Yes, TDA4x can send out the reference clock.  The TRM is currently being updated to reflect that and provide details on required software settings.  However, internal refclk generation is still under validation to confirm that it complies with the PCIe spec jitter requirements.  At this time, I recommend that your system be designed to use an external PCIe clock generator to provide the refclk to both devices.  A population option can be added on the board to allow the internally generated refclk from one device to be shared with the other device.

  • Hi B.C.

    Thanks for your suggest.

We will work with customer use external clock generator provide 100MHz PCIe reference clock to 2 TDA4x.

    Best Regards!
