Hi,
We have some doubts on choosing and interfacing a suitable DDR3L memory for a custom board with AM3358 processor.
1. AM335x supports min frequency of 303 MHz and max frequency of 400 MHz. Does this mean I can operate the DDR3 at ANY frequency in between 303 MHz and 400 MHz ? Or it is either 303 MHz OR 400 MHz?
2. If my DDR operating frequency is not finalized at pre-layout stage, what frequency do you recommend using for pre-layout SI analysis and PCB design? 303 MHz or 400 MHz?
3. Does Table 7-60 mean that I need a DDR of speed grade higher than 1600 to operate at 400 MHz? If I have a DDR3-1333, am I limited to 303 MHz?
1. Technically yes, but most if not all customers run at one of those 2 frequencies. We have optimized PLL settings for the 2 frequencies, and there really is not much reason to choose anything else.
2. you should target 400Mhz. Ensure that you follow the board layout and design guidelines in the AM335x datasheet
3. Yes, you should use at least a DDR3-1600 device to run at 400MHz.

James
