TDA4VM: Stable Power-Reset/Power-Cycle

Part Number: TDA4VM

Hello,

I currently have a TDA4VM bundle with Base board + Gateway extension, and I am trying to achieve a stable power-cycle.

The version of U-boot I am using is:

U-Boot 2019.01-g66126341c8 (Dec 11 2019 - 21:52:51 +0000)

Problem:

There are 2 methods of power reset I've tested: One by cutting the power itself (power-cycle) and one using the RESETz button.

When using either of the methods, I see about ~10% of failures, where it will hang in the middle of bootlooder startup (before it gets to U-boot).

Question:

I was wondering if there is a recommended way of resetting/power-cycling this board. (Or is this expected?)

In order for me to automate the validation on this target and really get it ready for development, I need to make sure the reset is working solidly.

Do you have any suggestion on this?

  • Will,

Assuming the input power is at a valid level then it's not expected for the boot to hang.  Are you saying it's failing during ROM boot execution?

Can you check your boot mode switches to make sure they are valid?

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Also - what power supply are you using?  I have seen similar results when powering EVM from a lab supply setup for 12V that was only able to source 1.25A.  Once we moved to supply capable of larger currents - we no longer saw any issue.  The recommended EVM supplies are identified in EVM User Guide, and are 12V/5A supplies.
