AM5706: Stepping Motor control

Hi Experts,

Our customer is developing their system with AM5706, recently, they have plan to develop the cost reduction model. I mean, customer would like to add AM5706’s functions into Stepping motor control with DRV84 series. The requirement of this stepping-motor-control is as follows

> One Axis of stepping motor :max 512,000pps/512KHz (controlling 3 Axis )

> Cortex A15 is requesting Cortex M4 to control Motor. M4 also response this request.

> Cortex M4 is controlling three Axis (tree stepping motors) simultaneously

>Customer would like to do the acceleration/deceleration control in real time (micro seconds order)

Would you consider it is possible to implement those requirement into AM5706 ?

I summarized their requirement and attached it(AM5706_Stepping_Motor_Control.zip).

Can we have your Expert’s advice/concerns/comments on this, please?

Sorry for the late response.

I think the latency requirement would be critical here for the feasibility evaluation.

A15 Linux (User space App) -> M4 (SYSBIOS) communication would take ~20-30 micro-seconds.

M4 (SYSBIOS) latency from HW interrupt (GPIO) to blocked task is 564 cycles based on SYSBIOS benchmarks.

M4 is running at 220Mhz so that latency is about 2.56 micro-seconds.

Then you have to add the latency of IO, like fetch code/data from DDR and read/write peripheral registers (Timer and GPIO).

You have to consider these factors to see if the rea-time control can be achieved or not.
