TMP392: Resistor which could be used to set temperature trip point

Part Number: TMP392

Hello team,

I received a question from my customer about resistor used to set temperature trip point in TMP392.

The customer is in a hurry, so I would appreciate if you could give us early feedback.

A 1% resistor in the E96 series has been specified for the TMP392 to set the temperature trip point.

Is it possible to substitute it with a close resistance value resistor, such as E24 series?

Best Regards,

Ryotaro Fukui

  • Dear Ryotaro -

Resistors and capacitors are classified by the E value to standardize. While you could possibly use E24 parts, there are only six values that match up between E24 and E96 series parts and many more missing between the two, so the answer is yes, but only for the matching values and with the understanding that their will be some offset due to the difference in tolerances. If the customer is understanding that using wider tolerance parts and values that are not listed on pages 7, 8 and 9 of the datasheet results in different temperature setpoints and they are willing to characterize this and take that responsibility for themselves, then it should be OK (meaning - it won't break anything, but the behavior of the device will be slightly different than what is published)

  • Dear Josh,

Thank you for the prompt response. I have got a feedback from the customer.

They understand that the temperature setting values would be different when using the E24 series.

They also told that since the device wouldn't break, they would like to use the actual test results to determine the adoption.

I would like to declare this case closed. Thank you for your help.

  • Great! Thanks so much for the response.
