AWR1443BOOST: AWR1443BOOST + DCA1000 EVM, repeating capture same data pattern when running sample script

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443

Hi,

I am setting up AWR1443BOOST with DCA1000 EVM to do some data capturing. Following are the details for the setup

- AWR1443 ES3

- mmWave Studio 2.1.1.0

The document I am following is DCA1000 Quick Start Guide(www.ti.com/.../spruik7.pdf. The following screenshot shows the status after proper connection to the host.

And I am trying to run DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua to see the behavior of the setup. The original script has some issue working with AWR1443, after some minor modification, it can run till the post processing part. Following log shows the last part of the running log.

The post processing screen shot is as following

It shows an object at 5m position while there is not. Even I turn the setup to face another direction, it still returns the same data. I have checked the timestamp of the data file(.bin), they are update at every new capture, so there should not be data/file residue issue.

Any suggestion to tackle this problem? Thanks in advance.

  • Hello User,

Please disable the "Test Source" in your configuration.

Your setup is currently not capturing any real scenarios since a Test source is enabled, which is a simulation of 5m object.

Please disable the "Test source enable" checkbox in the frame config.

  • Hi Ishita

Thanks for the info. After config as you suggested, it can show some different detection.

    For some follow up questions:

    1. May I know is there any document/tutorial I can refer to for find such kind of information? (e.g test source enable/disable for the simulated object?)

    2. After disable the test source in the script, I have run the sample script a few times. I am getting the following two result for post processing.

    Post Processing 1

    Post Processing 2

The first result seems to be reasonable to me as it detects one object within 1m from the setup. But the second result shows "No detected points", though the two are run under same environment with same script. Is there anything I might miss during the test process? Thanks.

    Best Rgds

  • Hello JIN Bo,

Please find my comments below :

    1. Test source is basically a part of the configuration and something that needs to be taken care of. mmWave ICD is a document that lists down all the APIs used to program all kinds of configurations in the mmWave Sensor, in case that's what you're looking for.

mmWave Studio user guide is also one document that lists all the features of each of the particular tab in mmWave Studio and since we have separate tab dedicated for test source configuration as well, you can take a look at that well.

Because you were getting the same results every time, my first guess was directed to the enablement of a test source.

    2. I believe the scenario in which you've placed the board is either too close to a large object or is subjected to multiple reflections. Even in the post processing 1 window, the detected object is close to 0m and I don't think that's correct.

You could maybe try this experiment with a corner/strong reflector placed at a distance of say 5m and then observe the results.

    Regards,

    Ishita
