TMCS1100-Q1: Can I connect sense resistor in parallel to increase sense current?

Part Number: TMCS1100-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMCS1100, DRV425

Hi team,

My customer wants to use TMCS1100 in their BMS application but their current is 800A max, they are asking if they can connect multiple sense resistors in parallel with TMCS1100 to increase it's current range?

Thanks!

  • Abraham,

The customer cannot do this. This is not a current shunt monitor. This device develops its output voltage internally via the use of Hall-effect sensors. The inclusion of resistors in parallel across the inputs would potentially divert the current away from the sensors and result in major errors in the measurement.

To be perfectly candid, for a current of this magnitude, the customer should probably be looking at fully non-invasive solutions, such as the DRV425. Even then, this amount of current will be a challenge.
