TMAG5124-Q1: replacement for Allegro

Part Number: TMAG5124-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5124

Hi Position Sensor Team,

I am looking for a position sensor to be used in an automotive mirror position feedback application. Is the TMAG5124-Q1 the closest device we have to these Allegro parts? https://www.allegromicro.com/en/products/sense/switches-and-latches/two-wire-hall-effect-switches/a1130-1-2

Could you help explain some of the benefits our part has?

Thank you,

Delaney

  • Hello Delaney,

Thanks for reaching out on the forum.  TMAG5124 is our only 2-wire current output Hall-effect switch.  As the BOP and BRP ranges are not the same, the magnet size or the relative spacing from the device will likely need to be different.  This might be helpful if your customer wants to use a smaller (cheaper) magnet and can afford to move it closer to the sensor.  Alternatively this could be useful if your customer needs additional space between the sensor and the magnet due the system body, enclosure, or some other space constraint.

Aside from that, the one notable difference would be current consumption. The TMAG5124 uses less, which might be beneficial for a car that is not always plugged in a wall and battery drain is a concern.

  • Thank you Patrick! Really appreciate the explanation!

    Best,

    Delaney
