LDC1101EVM: GUI will not run

Hi Mekre, I am running windows 10 pro and the LDC1101 EVM GUI is installed here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\LDC1101 EVM GUI"

Hello Kenneth, 

Can you try communicating to the EVM using a serial program like Putty or Tera Term? Instructions and an example for this are provided in section 3.15 of the LDC1101EVM User's Guide. 

Let me know if you are able to get information back from the EVM this way. 

Also, in addition to the steps mentioned in the related thread, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the LDC1101EVM GUI?

Hi Justin, yes I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the GUI with admin rights but the "broken arrow" remains at the top of the gui. Note this symptom occurs whether the EVM is connected to the pc or not. When I follow the steps in section 3.15 I get no response from the EVM. To confirm my steps, I open a serial terminal in Putty with the recommended settings, then I type 02316B followed by ctrl-m, ctrl-j for a carriage return and line feed.

You may not have an older version of the Microsoft .NET framework on your computer that the GUI requires to run. Please try following the instructions in this guide: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/dotnet-35-windows-10. Once you have done so, retry launching the GUI.

Hi Justin, now the GUI will run, but I am running into the same issue described by Patrick here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/957825/ldc1101evm-problems-using-sensing-solutions-gui

"At start-up of the GUI it shows "CONNECTED" for some (2..3) seconds, then it switches to "NOT CONNECTED"

I have tried the other suggested fixes in the thread linked above (running 2541.Fix_LDC1101_GUI_com_port_issue.zip, uninstalling the driver and reconnecting the EVM so the device LDC1101EVM was recognized as "USB Serial Device" by Windows, and installing NI-LVRT 2010 SP1), but the issue remains.

Can you try reflashing the EVM using the instructions in this FAQ post? If that doesn't work, to make sure the EVM is communicating with the computer properly, can you retry the PUTTY test after the flash? Make sure to copy and paste the '02316B' command into the terminal rather than type it in.

Hi Justin, thanks for the continued support. I was able to re-flash the EVM using the instructions in that FAQ without any issues. However, when I run the LDC1101 EVM GUI I can select the correct COM port (COM5), but it still shows unconnected (screenshot below). Note that it does connect to the sensing solutions GUI without issue.

I tried the putty test again after the flash but still no luck there. Given that the sensing solutions gui and the python firmware updater both worked, I think it is a setting I've missed in my putty setup. If we need to continue testing via putty, can you send me your configuration setup for putty to make sure I have all the correct settings? However, since it is communicating with other softwares, I suspect the issue is still with the LDC1101 GUI.

The Putty testing is mostly to ensure the firmware on the EVM is working properly. If the issue is purely with the GUI install, then the EVM should still be able to communicate registers over Putty. The communication between Putty and the EVM is the same as it would be for the GUI to communicate to the EVM. Here is a screenshot of how Putty should be setup for this: 

Let me know if that fixes the Putty communication to the EVM.
