IWR6843: Need a reference to a specific TI lab (People counting + tracking + clustering)

Part Number: IWR6843

Hi TI team,

I'm wondering if someone have an idea about a TI lab i have already seen but i never found again.

It is about a lab where the IWR6843 device was used, The device was capable not only of detecting all moving objects in the field of detection (as point cloud), but also it was capable to distinguish human movement of other moving objects.

I remember in the example showed, there was a fan and moving persons in the same scene, the output for humans was highlighted (as human) and for the fan was not! (even if detected) There were also the tracking option (persons stop moving and still being detected).

I really need this specific lab so if you can help I will be very grateful.

Please note that i have seen the other labs but i need this specific one. However, if there is any lab performing as well (detecting + tracking all moving objects and giving human highlighted in clusters) please don't hesitate to reference it.

Thank you in advance.

Have a good day.

Abdellah.

  • Hi Abdellah,

I believe you are referring to the Sense and Direct HVAC Control lab. This lab was deprecated and is no longer supported in version 4.12 of the Industrial Toolbox. The lab can be found in version 4.11 of the Industrial Toolbox. Refer to the toolbox README for instructions on accessing and downloading older versions of the toolbox.

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

Thank you for answering, yes i found the lab.

    I'm having another question :

I have seen here and here : to have a tracking functionality. The device should contain a DSP (which is included in IWR6843).

In the other side, i have seen in this lab and this one that the persons are no more tracked (or PCD represented) once they have a static pose (no motion : sat for example). in my use-case i need to track bodies even in a no-motion status. Is there any configuration on this kind of board to do so?

    Abdellah.

  • Hi Abdellah,

I have some questions for you:

    1. What range are you trying to track targets at? 5m? 10m? 15m?
    2. Can you provide the configuration file you are using now?

Also, I recommend taking a look at the Detection Layer Tuning Guide and Tracking Layer Tuning Guide for the People Counting Demo in the Industrial Toolbox. There you can find specifics related to fine motion detection (e.g. when someone is sitting).

    Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

What range are you trying to track targets at? 5m? 10m? 15m?

The best range possible, but at least i have to reach 5m, the ideal for me is between 5 to 10 meters

Can you provide the configuration file you are using now?

In fact i'm not using the IWR6843 for now. So, i don't have any configuration set. However, i want to use it but before ordering i want to make sure that it can track people while in static status. (The most important reason for which i want to order the IWR6843).

    Thank you for you answer.

    Abdellah.

  • Sorry Josh,

The both links you sent here

Also, I recommend taking a look at the Detection Layer Tuning Guide and Tracking Layer Tuning Guide for the People Counting Demo in the Industrial Toolbox.

Are referencing the same Tuning guide, only the Detection Layer Parameter's one!! Could you please resend the Tracking Layer Parameter's one.

    Have a nice day.

    Abdellah.

  • Hi Abdellah,

Sorry about that. Here is the correct link to the Tracking Layer Tuning Guide. Both documents can be found under the People Counting Lab in the Industrial Toolbox.

Based upon the range you're looking for it should be possible to retain tracks for static targets by tuning the detection and tracking layer parameters in the people counting demo.

If you have the Industrial Toolbox downloaded you can also check out the static retention config files provided with the People Counting demo (<TOOLBOX_DIR>/labs/People_Counting/3D_People_Counting/chirp_configs).

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Thank's a lot Josh. You answers are really helping.

    Have a nice day.

    Abdellah.
