LDC1000EVM: LDC1000EVM won't stay connected

Part Number: LDC1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101

Hi Experts,

Our customer has an LDC1000EVM connected to his PC, and the EVM GUI is running. The sensor board connects for approx. 15 seconds, then disconnects for 15 seconds, then reconnects... It won't stay connected.

We have seen below E2E links below:

Now, the customer was making a little progress.  By turning register Auto Read on, it seems to keep the connection alive.  However, all the register entries are zero.  When he try to change them per the User’s Guide, he get the message “No registers queued for write”.  he get no output in the Data Streaming graph, which is really all he want at this time.

Some of these troubleshooting threads referenced below are over seven years old, so this is not a new issue. We hope to receive your advise. Thank you.

Best regards,

Gerald

  • Hello Gerald,

I want to start by mentioning that the LDC1000 is not recommended for new designs. The LDC1101 is the closest match. You can see a comparison between it and our other devices in the LDC device selection guide.

For the connection issue, there are a couple things that could help determine the source of the issue if the previous threads didn't fix it. Can the customer provide the following:

    • A screenshot of how the EVM shows up in the device manager of the PC
    • What OS the PC is running
    • If it is possible to test with a different PC, does the issue occur on both PCs
    • Is the USB port directly to the computer or through a USB hub? USB hubs have caused problems in the past.

  • Hi Justin,

Thank you for your response. Here is the screenshot:

Windows 10;  different PC had the same issue;  not connected with the USB hub.

    Best regards,

    Gerald

  • Hello Gerald,

The device should show as EVM:

Normally this is either a driver or firmware issue. The threads you listed previously had instructions for both reinstalling the sensing solutions GUI and for performing a firmware flash using the python firmware upgrading tool. I assume neither helped the solution so the next step would be to try to force the EVM driver to the device by selecting it. Through device manager check the EVMs driver. It should look as follows:

If not, choose to update the drive and browse your computer for drivers. You will want to make sure you select the following location:

From there, the EVM driver should appear on the next screen and you should be able to assign it to the board.

Let me know if this resolved your issue or if it is still having connection problems.

    Best Regards,

    Justin Beigel
